Pesticide and Insecticide Applications

At Hemlock Consulting, we provide targeted pesticide application services focused on forest health, insect management, and vegetation control.

Our approach prioritizes accurate diagnosis, proper timing, and environmentally responsible application to ensure effective results without unnecessary chemical use.
We specialize in both rural forest environments and urban landscapes, with services tailored to Colorado’s high-elevation and drought-stressed ecosystems.

Forest and landscape pest services:

1

Mountain Pine Beetle (MPB) Prevention

Mountain pine beetle is one of the most destructive forest insects in Colorado.
We provide preventative bark spray treatments using registered insecticides such as:

  • Carbaryl

  • Bifenthrin

  • Permethrin

These treatments:

  • Must be applied prior to beetle flight (typically late spring–early summer)

  • Require full bole coverage from ground to crown

  • Provide one full season of protection

  • Key point (this builds trust):

  • Preventative spraying is highly effective when done correctly, but it does not save already infested trees. Proper identification is critical.

2

Noxious weed control

We provide selective herbicide application for the control of invasive and noxious weeds in:

  • Forested properties

  • Rights-of-way

  • Residential and rural landscapes

Our approach:

  • Identify target species and infestation extent

  • Select appropriate herbicide and method (foliar, basal, cut-stump, etc.)

  • Apply at the correct growth stage for maximum effectiveness

  • We emphasize:

  • Minimizing non-target impacts

  • Preventing re-establishment

  • Integrating mechanical and cultural controls when appropriate

3

Urban Tree and Landscape Pest Management

In urban and residential settings, we address a wide range of insect and plant health issues, including:

  • Aphids and scale insects

  • Needle cast and foliar issues

  • Borers and defoliators

Treatment options may include:

  • Insecticidal soaps and oils

  • Systemic applications where appropriate

  • Targeted foliar sprays

Important distinction:
Not every issue requires pesticide application. We prioritize proper diagnosis first, and only recommend treatment when it will provide meaningful benefit.
